To equip the church’s core co-workers with pastoral and leadership skills so that they may serve God and work with others more effectively in the church.

Church core co-workers, small group leaders, and ministry department workers. Some courses are also open to non-co-workers for participation and learning.

Mode of Delivery

This program is an extension training initiative aimed at equipping church co-workers for ministry. Each course comprises 10 contact hours and can be arranged in accordance with the scheduling needs of the participating church. The following four delivery formats are offered for the church’s consideration.

Five weekday daytime or evening sessions, with two hours per session
One weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
Two Saturdays
Other arrangements, such as online instruction, retreats, or church camps

In principle, courses will be led by the full-time faculty of the International Chinese Biblical Seminary in Europe. When necessary, qualified adjunct or guest instructors from outside the Seminary may be invited to assist in teaching.
Please refer to the following courses under the “Five Essential Capacities.” Churches may also apply for other courses offered by the Seminary beyond those included in the “Five Essential Capacities.”

Expenses

Expenses to Be Assumed by the Hosting Church

Transportation: Travel expenses for the course instructor(s).
Accommodation: Lodging for the course instructor(s), either in a hotel or in a host home.
Course Fee: €800 for classes with fewer than 20 participants.
Course Fee: €1,000 for classes with 20 or more participants.

Overview	The mission of Christ cannot be accomplished in a single day. Church co-workers must intentionally build and pass on lives marked by spiritual maturity and ministry legacy, so as to raise up the next generation of workers to continue God’s calling.
Approach	Through intentional life formation, disciple-making, mentoring, and pastoral guidance, participants are led to grow through both success and failure, becoming servants who are after God’s own heart.

The Apostles’ Creed

Understanding the Foundations of the Christian Faith
Understanding the Transmission of the Christian Faith

The Evolution of Pastoral Ministry Models in Church History

To take a wide-angle view of history and discern the marvelous works of God as the Lord of history.
To understand the relationship between the internal life of the church and its surrounding external context.
To distinguish between the essence of faith and its outward expressions.

Christian Ethics

This course explores how Christian faith is integrated into daily life as a guiding principle, and provides a theological understanding of Stewardship.

Discernment of Heresies

This course examines major heretical teachings throughout church history, helping participants understand why we believe what we believe, and equipping the church to respond wisely to the infiltration of heretical influences.

Communication and Listening

This course explores the purpose and structure of communication in building psychological safety and a sense of belonging. It also introduces the logic of effective communication—voice, content, and body language—while developing the art of attentive listening and addressing communication between generations.

Public Communication and Expression

This course focuses on developing clear and effective public communication in ministry contexts such as Sunday worship and public speaking. It equips participants in content preparation, speaking skills, clarity, vocal modulation, and pacing. The course also helps participants develop their own communication style, understand different contexts, and engage audiences effectively by capturing and maintaining their attention.

Reading Classical Christian Texts

Engaging with key theological classics such as Martin Luther’s On the Freedom of a Christian and other representative works.

Basic Preaching

This course covers the fundamentals of preaching, including the qualifications of a preacher, types of sermons (expository, topical, doctrinal, evangelistic, funeral, and wedding sermons), and the development of sermon outlines. It also emphasizes understanding the audience, preparation before preaching, and post-sermon evaluation and reflection.

Team Building

This course provides a biblical foundation for team ministry and explores key dimensions of healthy team life, including vision, unity, structure, communication, and collaboration. It emphasizes interpersonal relationships, the spiritual life of team members, decision-making processes, ministry models, collaboration between pastors and elders, and crisis management in church teams.

Groups

This course focuses on the leadership and pastoral care of small groups, including their life cycle and the intentional design of group content that moves participants from belonging to commitment. It examines relational dynamics between leaders and members, addresses dysfunction within groups with restorative approaches, and provides frameworks for effective small group evaluation.

Church Care and Counseling

This course examines the role of care ministry within the church, including its purpose, skills, and common pitfalls. It provides practical training in home visits and hospital visitation, with clear preparation guidelines. The course also introduces key principles and qualities of counseling ministry, with particular attention to grief counseling.

Meeting Preparation and Facilitation

This course develops practical competencies for preparing and facilitating effective meetings in church ministry. It includes pre-meeting preparation, agenda development, and meeting flow design. Participants are trained in principles and skills of meeting facilitation, including guiding discussion, decision-making, and action planning, as well as ensuring effective post-meeting follow-up.

Setting Long- and Short-Term Goals

This course equips participants to translate church mission and vision into practical long- and short-term goals, including the formulation of goals and sub-goals. It covers key steps in goal setting, as well as strategies for implementation, follow-up, and evaluation. The course also explores reward systems that support motivation and sustained ministry effectiveness.

Implementation Strategy and Management Models

This course examines different models of church management and practical strategies for effective ministry implementation. It addresses the roles and responsibilities of full-time and bi-vocational workers, and the integration of human, material, and time resources. The course also explores vertical and horizontal structures of authority and leadership, and develops an understanding of healthy team execution culture.

Leadership Formation (I & II)

This course explores the nature and understanding of church leadership, including the responsible use of authority and power in ministry. It addresses how leaders respond to success and failure, and emphasizes the development of inner spiritual life. The course further explores maturity in ministry, the transformation of ministry philosophy, and responses to challenges in leadership.

Human Resource Deployment

This course explores ministry analysis and human resource planning in the church. It covers recruitment, training, and development of personnel, grounded in biblical principles of equipping and developing people. The course also focuses on the cultivation of co-workers through interpersonal skills development and the enhancement of ministry competencies.

Ministry Evaluation and Advancement

This course examines the value and importance of evaluation in ministry development. It explores the biblical and ethical foundations of personnel and ministry evaluation, along with practical processes and tools, including evaluation forms. The course also addresses common challenges and potential negative outcomes in evaluation practices, aiming to promote healthy and constructive ministry advancement.

Worship and Service Leading

This course introduces the essential elements of Sunday worship and provides a clear framework for worship structure. It covers the qualifications and practical guidelines for worship leaders, as well as key components such as the call to worship and the fourfold structure of public prayer.

Worship Hospitality

This course explores the identity and role of ushers and the hospitality ministry in worship services. It covers the qualifications for serving in this ministry, as well as practical guidance for handling special situations that may arise during service.
